I can use my significant property expertise and local government sector knowledge and experience to help get your transaction progressed swiftly to completion for you.

Richard is an Executive within our Commercial Property Department.

With over 40 years’ experience in the Commercial Property sector, Richard is extremely well placed to guide clients swiftly and strategically through the potential minefields which they can otherwise face.

Having been an in-house Principal Legal Officer and property lawyer for a Local Authority in Essex for 25 years, Richard has an excellent understanding of the workings of Local Government when it comes to land transactions. This benefits clients in particular with matters involving the following:

  • The full spectrum of property development work, including the full spectrum of development and planning agreements, easements and utilities wayleaves;
  • Shared ownership and Right to Buy schemes; and
  • Leasehold transactions with local government involvement.

In addition to dealing with complex commercial property and residential property development work, Richard also has a proven track record of dealing with investment property and property portfolio management work, and is recommended in The Legal 500 for his work on this.

Richard’s recent work for his landowning clients, for example, has involved a complex conditional sale of a brownfield development site to a major supermarket chain, a land promotion agreement in respect of development land and a complicated conditional land sale and adverse possession claim, with overage requirements.

Richard likes to get to know his clients and takes the time to ascertain their exact requirements in order to ensure we tailor their transaction to suit them and their needs.

Prior to moving into Local Government, Richard trained and worked for over 10 years, in one of the Magic Circle City firms where he was for many years the first point of call for an international charity with a substantial property portfolio.

Married, Richard is a Civilian Instructor within the Royal Air Force Air Cadet Organisation and is based in Rayleigh where, amongst many other things, he teaches a British Safety Council accredited Health & Safety Course. Richard is also a Royal Air Force and NSRA qualified short range, Range Conducting Officer and shooting coach, as well as an Associate Member and a past President of the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill. Richard also enjoys foreign travel and dining out.
