Maisie Yau is based at our Basildon office.
Maisie qualified as a solicitor in September 2012 and has been practising in Commercial Property work since then. She joined Palmers, in March 2014.
Maisie read law at the University of East Anglia followed by a Masters in Employment Law at the same institution, where she was awarded a distinction, graduating in 2006 and 2007 respectively. She was also awarded a distinction in her Legal Practice Course, which she obtained at Leicester De Montfort University.
Maisie is a member of both our Commercial Property and Construction and Engineering Law departments following her promotion to Associate status in August 2016.
Her background and continuing involvement in the commercial property team has enabled her to develop a portfolio of work for property developers such work including overage and option agreements, conditional agreements and planning agreements.
Maisie’s commercial property work also includes landlord and tenant work, acquisitions and disposals of freehold properties, property refinancing, property management and investment work, and support for corporate transactions.
Maisie is responsible for working with clients in the construction and engineering sectors, and deals with all aspects of non-contentious construction projects, including building contracts (whether industry standard or bespoke), consultants’ appointments, insurance, collateral warranties and third party rights, and performance bonds, parent company guarantees and novation.
Maisie’s work for clients have included the following:
- Led the Commercial Property team in the property aspects of a corporate restructuring involving the refinance and transfer of a property portfolio valued at around £74.5 million;
- Acted for a packaging company, ultimately owned by a FTSE 100 company, in the property aspects of a hive-up valued at circa £8.7 million and subsequently in various leasehold transactions for the client;
- Acted for the UK subsidiary of the world’s largest independent engineering company for powertrain systems, in the acquisition of a new lease of a powertrain testing facility centre, and the property and construction aspects of a larger powertrain testing facility centre in a deal worth over £7 million (freehold conditional acquisition and Build);
- Assisted the UK division of a global Fortune 750 company in the acquisition of additional office space in the UK.
Outside of work, Maisie enjoys socialising with friends, cooking, baking, skiing, eating out and playing the piano.
