We will be presenting at masterclasses on cybersecurity and data protection at the Basildon Business Expo on Wednesday 22 November 2017.
The masterclasses have been arranged under the auspices of the Basildon Business Group, of which we are a member firm.
Alongside us, local businesses will also hear from the Chief Executive of the London Digital Security Centre, Barclays Bank and Glacier IT on issues including the risks and costs of cybercrime, the value of data and how they can take immediate steps to protect it.
The masterclasses come just months before the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25 May 2018, bringing with it some stringent new data protection requirements, backed up by steep fines for organisations that fail to comply.
Carey Jacobs, a Partner at Palmers Solicitors, said: “Firms that previously would not have held significant amounts of personal and sensitive data are now able to easily collect, store and transmit vast quantities of information.
“This carries with it substantial responsibilities as well as financial, regulatory and reputational risks for many businesses.
“That is why we, alongside and as part of the Basildon Business Group, are keen to update businesses on their responsibilities and the steps they can take to ensure their data and that of their clients are secure.
“I would encourage all businesses in the local area to attend the Basildon Business Expo and to join our masterclasses.”
The Basildon Business Expo 2017 takes place on Wednesday 22 November 2017 at Wat Tyler Country Park from 10am to 3pm and is organised by Basildon Council in partnership with Essex Chambers of Commerce.
