Palmers continues commitment to Dementia Friends

News Article

One of South Essex’s leading independent law firms, Palmers, has recommitted itself to providing the best possible support to those living with dementia and their families by training the new staff within its Older Client team as Dementia Friends.

Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative that aims to promote knowledge about the different forms of dementia. The majority of Palmers’ older client team had previously become Dementia Friends and, following the recent expansion of the team, the firm decided to invite Gillian Gibson, an Alzheimer’s Society volunteer, back to provide an information session to the newer members of the team.

During their training staff learned what it is like to live with dementia so that they can provide practical solutions for clients suffering from the condition.

Palmers are also proud to be part of the Southend Dementia Action Alliance, an organisation made up of firms, charities and the public sector, who are dedicated to working together to help boost the quality of life for people with dementia, their families and carers. Lee McClellan, a Partner at Palmers, said: “We are immensely proud of the help that we give to all of our clients, including people with dementia and other conditions, but in order to ensure the quality of service we provide remains high, we thought it was essential that our new staff undergo the Dementia Friends training.

“I would like to thank Gillian Gibson for providing the information session and to thank her and all the fantastic staff and volunteers at Alzheimer’s Society for the invaluable work they do.

“Having spoken with the staff members who have completed the training it is clear that it has really helped them to better understand the illness, which will hopefully help them to understand how their actions can help others who are in some way living with dementia in the future.”

Palmers’ Older Client department is staffed by sympathetic and experienced personnel, including a number of members of the nationwide organisation Solicitors for the Elderly.
