Palmers recognises local achievements

Multi-award winning law firm Palmers Solicitors sponsored Basildon Council’s Improving Lives Award at its staff awards, which took place on 15 April.

Residents of the borough voted for a council staff member or team that they felt had made a difference and delivered great customer service to the local community.

Highly commended in the category was Ian Cody from Leisure and Community Facilities. The judges commented that Ian acts as the conduit between a karate club and the council. His replies to queries are sent in a very timely fashion and nothing is too big or too small a request. The nominator said: “The way he [Ian] communicates in a clear and effective manner only goes to strengthen the relationship between the council and our club. It is due to his work that we continue to source council-owned halls, rather than looking at private hire. He is clearly passionate about what he does and is an ideal representative for the council.”

However, the winner of the award was Grant Taylor from Housing Landlord Services. Judges noted that the winner of the Improving Lives category worked tirelessly to ensure a major community project which seemed like a dream became a reality for the community. The nominator said: “He attended many meetings out of hours and I don’t honestly know how he juggled all of the emails and co-ordination required during the time to ensure the project was a success. I truly believe this project would not have got off the ground without his input.”

Partner at Palmers Solicitors, Lee McClellan, who presented the award to Grant, said: “Congratulations to Grant Taylor and also to Ian Cody for being highly commended in this hotly-fought category. Palmers is very proud to be a part of Basildon’s business community and recognises the importance of good customer service, especially as we won the Excellent Customer Service category at both the 2014 and 2015 Thurrock Business Awards. It’s a privilege to be a part of the Improving Lives Award and I thank everyone at Basildon Council for their hard work and dedication.”
